Scientists from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) trap and track the Mazama pocket gophers on public lands near Maytown in April 2011. The contentious critters are protected, which has caused panic among property owners who find them on their land. The WDFW hopes that relocating the animals here will create a win-win situation for gophers and developers.
